Certificate in Environmental Education

This 12-hour certificate in environmental education provides the skills to be a leader in environmental education in both formal and informal educational settings.  The program is accredited by the North American Association for Environmental Education and was designed in conjunction with the Master Plan for Environmental Education approved by the Kentucky Legislature.  In addition, this program has received accreditation from NAAEE Accreditation: Distinguished College and University Programs. The program is open to both undergraduate and graduate students.

·         BIO 590/790 – Ecology for Teachers

·         EMS 561/761 – Environmental Education Essentials




Electives (choose 6 credit hours from the following):

·         BIO 500/700 – Environmental Issues 

           or GEO 302W – Global Environmental Problems

·         REC 590/790 – Teaching in the Outdoors

·         ELE 424 – Teaching Science in the Elementary Grades

·         EMG 492 – Science in the Middle Grades

·         EMS 563/763 – Teaching Environmental Education

·         ESE 561/761 – Teaching Science in the Secondary School

·         CHE 501/701 – Environmental Chemistry

·         UNP 500/700 – International Environmental Service Learning

·         Co-op/internship with Natural Areas (BIO 349. GEO 349, HIS 349, REC 463, or SCO 349)
